Six EDC Clients Named Finalists for 2011 Prometheus Awards

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA—FEBRUARY 22—The Entrepreneurial Development Center (EDC) is pleased to announce that six of its clients are finalists in six categories of the 2011 Prometheus Awards hosted by the Technology Association of Iowa (TAI).

The client finalists include: Involta, MobileDemand, Ovation Networks, Genova Technologies, Terpenoid Therapeutics and Vision-1.

The sixth annual Prometheus Awards event will be held Thursday, April 7, at the Meadows Convention Center in Altoona, IA. The awards event recognizes companies, innovations and individuals that positively impact Iowa’s technology-based economy. According to  TAI President, Leann Jacobson, there were 83 nominations submitted this year—a record for the awards. 

EDC congratulates its clients on their recognition as finalists for these prestigious technology awards. “We’re pleased that six of our clients are finalists for this year’s Prometheus Awards,” said Curt Nelson, President and CEO of the EDC. “These awards are very competitive. It is a testimony to our clients’ efforts that they are being recognized for their contribution to Iowa’s economy and advancements in technology.”

Marion-based Involta and Hiawatha-based MobileDemand are both finalists for Technology Company of the Year (Small/Medium). Involta provides full-service data center capabilities and support to manage and protect mission critical computer systems and associated data.  MobileDemand provides rugged mobile computer systems focused on data collection and field automation.

Involta CEO and EDC client Bruce Lehrman, is a finalist for CEO of the Year. Involta was ranked #40 on the 2010 Inc. 500 list of Fastest Growing Companies.

Ovation Networks, Inc. of Cedar Rapids is a finalist for Best User of Technology. Ovation Networks enables hospitality businesses to provide high-speed wireless, Internet connectivity, guest support and energy management solutions.

Additionally, EDC client Vision-1 of Huxley, IA is a finalist for Best User of Technology. Vision-1 has a patented customer survey method at the point of transaction, linking the response to a specific date/time and employee--ideal for retailers to track the customer experience/satisfaction.

Genova Technologies, Cedar Rapids, is up for Technology Company of the Year (Large/Enterprise). Genova Technologies specializes in project management, custom software development, requirements gathering and IT consulting nationwide.

Genova Technologies is also nominated for Breakout Company of the Year.

Iowa City-based Terpenoid Therapeutics, Inc. is a finalist for Life Sciences Company of the Year. Terpenoid is a drug discovery and development company focused on advancing novel drugs for cancer and osteoporosis.
