Iowa City-Based EDC Client, All Star Chocolates, Launches Premium Quality College-Branded Chocolates at Consumer-Friendly Prices

IOWA  CITY, IA—December 18, 2009—All Star Chocolates, a Bochner Confections brand, has launched a line of premium quality, college-branded/licensed chocolates, including University of Iowa and Iowa State University, at a price point that even the recession-struck consumer can appreciate. “Multiple area retailers, from supermarkets to drugstores and convenience stores, have begun carrying the products on their shelves. We’ve had great reception from consumers because of the high-quality taste of the chocolate and affordable price point,” said Bochner Confections President and CEO, Eric Bochner.

Both of Iowa’s leading supermarket retailers, Fareway Stores and Hy-Vee, are carrying All Star Chocolates products. Doug Haugland, Store Manager for the Fareway store in Ankeny, Iowa, says that his customers tell him that the All Star Chocolates are incomparable to other chocolate bars. “My customers are my boss and they’re telling me they didn’t know chocolate could taste this good, so we’re getting a lot of repeat business. I pay attention to signs like that,” says Haugland.

Fueled in part by the exciting 2009 Midwest college football season, but also by the All Star Chocolates’ great taste, the chocolates have been moving quickly off the shelves.  “It’s in the Fareway warehouse and other stores are now seeing my numbers and they’re wondering, ‘Wow, are we missing the boat here?’”, stated Haugland.

Hy-Vee stores are not missing the boat with their customers. Jim Lingo, Store Director for the Collins Road Hy-Vee in Cedar Rapids, says that bringing both the Iowa and Iowa State-branded All Star Chocolates in this year helped him differentiate. “I’m always looking for something unique to offer our customers and these chocolates have gone over really well. Customers liked them for tailgating and now they’re buying them for holiday stocking stuffers,” he said.

All Star Chocolates bars come in milk chocolate with creamy caramel and milk chocolate with creamy peanut butter with a suggested retail price of $0.99 cents per bar. Each “bar” contains four individual pieces. Additionally, its “Hawkeye Tasting Squares,” currently a

University of Iowa licensed product, are made with premium Belgian chocolate, and are decorated in Hawkeye black and gold. They are packaged in a pack of 18 squares with a hand-tied bow and hangtag, and come in milk chocolate with crisp, as well as a solid dark chocolate. The tasting squares retail for $5.99 per package of 18 squares—a good price and size for holiday gift giving.
