Step Two: Fill out the EDC Client Application

Click here to access the application, or find it under the Services tab. You may also have one e-mailed, mailed or faxed to you upon request.

Step Three: Application Review

The team at EDC will review your application and in some cases, call you with questions. Once complete, the EDC team will make a determination as to the appropriate next step(s) which may include:

  • An initial meeting with EDC to better understand your business needs and opportunities (Step 4).
  • A direct referral to the appropriate professional / technical resource - like an IP attorney, marketing agency or accounting firm.

Step Four: Initial Meeting

If you are invited for an initial meeting at EDC, you will be asked to provide as much information prior to the meeting as possible (a copy of your business plan, trailing 24 months of financials, etc.). At this meeting, we will listen to your needs and ask you questions to help us better understand the current condition of your business or business idea.

Step Five and Beyond

The EDC team will review the outcome of the initial meeting and will make a determination as to the next appropriate step which may include:

  • Outline of action items to help you achieve your goals.
  • A direct referral to the appropriate professional / technical resource - like an IP attorney, marketing agency or accounting firm.
  • Become a client and engage with EDC for ongoing mentoring (if your business is a fit with EDC's core client (Iowa-based, scalable, interstate commerce). The EDC requires all clients to sign a Mentoring Services Agreement--there is a fee associated with the agreement that will be discussed with you during the initial meeting. EDC's most successful clients have taken advantage of the ongoing mentoring and put in the time and hard work necessary to create their own success.
